What is the difference between CSIR NET and UGC NET?

 

CSIR stands for Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) who is responsible for conducting CSIR NET Examination and National Testing Agency(NTA) is responsible for conducting UGC NET Examination.

 

The objective of both the exam are to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for Lectureship (LS) /Assistant Professor to Indian nationals for pursuing their Ph.D. program or research in Indian universities and colleges subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria laid down by UGC.

 

UGC NET Exam is conducted for almost all subjects of every stream while CSIR NET exam is conducted only for the science stream subjects.

 

CSIR NET Exam has only one paper of 3 hours while UGC NET has two papers with the time duration of 3 hours.

 

What is the eligibility for NET exam with age?

UGC NET Age Limit for the year 2022
There is no age limit for applying for the NET exam if you are applying for the Assistant Professor only. But if you ar eapplying for JRF or Assistant Professor and JRF then age bar is applicable, For General Category Candidate should not be more than 31 years of age as of October 01, 2022, but for the reserved category age relaxation are provided as follows

Reserved Category	Age Relaxation for JRF
OBC, SC/ST/PwD/Transgender categories, women applicants	5 Years
Candidates having research experience in a relevant field related to their post-graduation	5 Years
Candidates with LLM Degree	3 Years
Armed Forces	5 Years
